mDeck A slide tool built for people who care about content
It started with my mother. She's a higher secondary math teacher. She uses a book and a blackboard. That's it. That's the whole setup.
She asked me to make slides for her. Not fancy ones. Just: here's the chapter, make it presentable.
reveal: incremental So I sat down to build her a deck. And immediately hit a wall. Existing tools wanted me to: - Pick a template - Choose fonts - Resize text boxes - Worry about alignment
She didn't need any of that. She needed: Exact. Correct. Readable. Not an image of a formula. Not an approximation. The formula.
The problem isn't design. The problem is that slide tools are designed for designers. But most people making slides — teachers, students, engineers, researchers — aren't designers. They're writers.
Writers think in text. They write notes in markdown. They draft in plain files. They think in structure, not in boxes.
mDeck is for them. Write markdown. Separate slides with ---. That's the entire interface. Newton's Second Law - = Force (Newtons) - = Mass (kg) - = Acceleration (m/s²)
Third Law For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The output is a clean, presentable deck. Six themes. Seven fonts. Pick once. Done. No per-slide design decisions. No fighting with text boxes. No broken formula images.
And if you want AI to do it? Connect Claude via MCP. Give it a PDF. Give it a topic. Watch the deck appear. The AI writes markdown. Markdown renders as slides. Nothing hallucinates because there are no images.
That's the whole idea. Content-first slides. For people who teach, learn, and build things. Open source. Free forever. [mdeck.dev](https://mdeck.dev)
